Kensington Palace is the official London residence of TRH The Prince and Princess of Wales and their children. It is also the birthplace of Queen Victoria. Included in your admission is:
Discover the story of Princess Victoria, the young girl destined to be queen, in the rooms where she was born and raised at Kensington Palace. This permanent exhibition, opened to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Victoria’s birth, explores how an indulged young princess blossomed into the independent and iconic monarch we remember.
The display includes remarkable objects relating to Victoria’s early years – including a poignant scrapbook of mementos created by her German governess, Baroness Lehzen, and Victoria’s doll house.
The Jewel Room displays commissioned gems for Queen Victoria by her beloved husband Albert.
William III and Mary II were crowned as joint monarchs in 1689, after they were invited by Parliament to take the throne in the place of Catholic King James II, Mary’s father. They bought Kensington Palace to become their new home, away from the bustle of Whitehall Palace, and transformed the building into a royal home.
The Queen’s apartments were where Mary, and later royal consorts, lived. This is where they had their bedroom, took their meals, entertained their friends and distinguished guests, and relaxed.
The Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace displays elegant floral planting and a statue of Diana, Princess of Wales.
